International Security Officers Day 2025: celebrating our life savers

It’s International Security Officers Day 2025 and we acknowledge all of our wonderful frontline people for the amazing job they do to protect people and property.

It’s not an easy job, especially when they are faced with situations where their actions can make the difference between life and death – or, as you will see below – make the difference between 28 lives and deaths!

Two of our Wellington security officers – Manuhuia and Alhassane were recently awarded the NZ Security Association’s Saved a Life medal for their stellar effort in safeguarding 28 lives!

In mid-June, Manuhuia was conducting a routine patrol on Level 3 of an apartment building when he heard a fire alarm sounding from Level 2.

Investigating, he saw smoke seeping from under the door of an apartment. CCTV Operator Alhassane advised Manuhuia that smoke was also coming from the apartment window.

After receiving no response when knocking, Manuhuia used his access swipe to enter and found the resident standing in the hallway while the kitchen filled with smoke. He told the resident to evacuate but was met with aggressive resistance to the point that, when he led the resident out, the resident ran back in!

Meanwhile, Alhassane activated the fire alarm system, which triggered the sprinklers.

Manuhuia briefed Fire and Emergency NZ upon their arrival and 28 people were safely evacuated. The quick and courageous actions of Manuhuia and Alhassane, and their excellent teamwork, helped contain a serious fire and safeguard many lives.
